Core Curriculum
Year 1
- Internal Medicine (or FM service) 8 weeks – at least ½ day/week continuity clinic
- Critical Care 2 weeks – no continuity clinic
- Night Float (in-patient FM service) 2 weeks - one ½ day/week continuity clinic
- Emergency Medicine 4 weeks - ½ day/week continuity clinic
- OB/GYN 4 weeks - ½ day/week continuity clinics
- Nursery 4 weeks - one ½ day/week continuity clinics
- Pediatrics 4 weeks - 4 to 5 ½ day/week continuity clinics
- General Surgery 4 weeks - 4 to 5 ½ day/week continuity clinics
- Family Medicine - 5 ½ day/week continuity clinics with modules/assignments
- Ophthalmology and Dermatology 2 weeks each - 3 ½ day/week continuity clinics
- Community Oriented Primary Care* 12 weeks - 5 ½ day/week continuity clinics
- (20 days of vacation/sick-day)
Year 2
- Internal Medicine (or FM service) 8 weeks – one ½ day/week continuity clinic
- Pediatric Emergency Medicine 4 weeks – one ½ day/week continuity clinic
- OB/GYN 4 weeks - one ½ day/week continuity clinic
- Pediatrics Inpatient 4 weeks – one ½ day/week continuity clinic
- Orthopedics 4 weeks - 4 to 5 ½ day/week continuity clinics
- Urology and ENT 2 weeks each - 3 ½ day/week continuity clinics
- Community Oriented Primary Care* 12 weeks - 6 ½ day/week continuity clinics
- Elective 12 weeks - 3 to 4 ½ day/week continuity clinics
- (20 days of vacation/sick-day, and 5 days of attending conferences)
Year 3
- Internal Medicine (or FM service) 8 weeks – one ½ day/week continuity clinic
- GYN outpatient 4 weeks - 4 to 5 ½ day/week continuity clinics
- Pediatrics outpatient 4 weeks - 4 to 5 ½ day/week continuity clinics
- Emergency Medicine 4 weeks – one ½ day/week continuity clinic
- Sports Medicine 4 weeks - 4 to 5 ½ day/week continuity clinics
- Geriatric 4 weeks (2 weeks inpatient, 2 weeks outpatient) – one ½ day/week continuity clinic during inpatient, 4 to 5 ½ day/week continuity clinics during outpatient
- Community-oriented primary care* 12 weeks - 6 ½ day/week continuity clinics
- Elective 12 weeks - 3 to 4 ½ day/week continuity clinics
- (20 days of vacation/sick-day, and 5 days of attending conferences)
Didactics will include 5 scheduled hours per week, with 2 hours delivered via distance learning, including live lectures, facilitated podcasts, case presentations, journal club, and board review sessions. Three hours per week will occur at each site, including lectures, directed readings, and self-study assignments. In DC, our local didactic includes Practice Management, Balint, Pediatric Modules, Maternal and Child Health, Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS), Osteopathic Principle and Practice(OPP)/Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine(OMM), Sports Medicine, Pharmacology by PharmD, Behavioral Health, Social Medicine, Advocacy. Each month, a group of residents are assigned to Grand Round Presentation.
*Community-oriented primary care must include 100 hours of geriatrics – which may be met by home care, nursing home visits, or others. Must have behavioral health component Must also include 100 hours of health systems management.
